 The beach in our country has a vast area of environmental systems.The mongroves fullfilled  with sea sand,lagoons,coral reefs,Hummana are very attractive environmental systems.Ussangoda is a special catchment area among these.  We can remember fauna and flora while seeing a garden.But Ussangoda is not like that.Ussangoda is a plain area with red soil near to sea.In here there are various kinds of flora are included.Ussangoda is located near to "Nonagama junction" in Colombo - Katharagama route.

This environment is very important because of the red coloured soil is expanded over here and no plants can be found here.And also another special thing is when we touch the soil here they are applied in our hands.There are so many religious and scientific legends towards this Ussangoda.According to the human myths,It is believed that the King Ravana's vehical (Dandumonaraya) was landed in this area.Scientifically,Ussangoda is a meteoroid.That means a part of a aerolite came to this place before million years ago.Due to the higher concentration of Ferric Oxide (Fe2O3) we can see the soil in red colour.Due to these chemical reactions,There is no nutrition in the soil included here.But due to the less experiments,this also is only a belief.The name is made "Ussangoda" after being "Usaugoda" with the landing of that aerolite.                  

 Ussangoda is the best place to see the sun set and stay evening.So I can never forget this enchanting place in my mind.
